2. Draw the subject's hands behind their backs (this creates a "cute" look and at the same time is a cheap way to NOT have to know enough anatomy to draw the freakin hands correctly)
3. Twist the original context of the subject that you are fan of. Homosexuality is key here. For example, if you're drawing a Harry Potter fan piece, draw him as a sleek, dark, sexy young man in the loving arms of his friend Ron Weasely or (to be even more ridiculous) in the arms of his mortal enemy Draco Malfoy. Bestiality, necrophilia, and general loss of innocence should be the theme regardless of blatant contradiction.
4. Draw every subject as some sort of sick half-human, half-fox creature. Once again, homosexuality should be recurrant. Draw female subjects with unrealistically large furry breasts to satisfy your disgusting fetishes.
Good gosh, I am so sick of what's happened to fan "art". I've honestly seen at least 5 separate examples each of Cloud kissing Sephiroth, Sonic sleeping with Tails, Harry fooling around with Malfoy, and so forth. Not to mention a hideous myriad of half-fox, half-teenage girl creatures in the cheapest, most appaling poses I've ever seen. Why middle school through high school kids get hot off of that, I will never know. The same thing goes for fan fiction, which is probably even worse in its content.
Botton line is I think the point of fan art is being missed tragically. I'm probably going to start a group...call it "Down With Crappy Fan Art"

You know...there's two kinds of things you can do w/ a gift. you can keep it and treasure it forever or you can shelve it away and forget it. Sometimes, though, you find that gift again and all of a sudden it seems so precious to you...
Love is a gift.
